West Valley Speedway Inaugural Season - A Brief Recap

West Valley Speedway, after a successful spring, saw their racing season transition into summer with some of the hottest dirt oval racing in the state.  The track where “The Action Is The Attraction” lived up to the hype and its reputation.

For West Valley’s premiere division, the HOLLYWOOD’S BODY AND PAINT IMCA Modifieds, George “The Fronzinator” Fronsman tightened his stranglehold on the season’s points.  Throughout the early summer, Fronsman put together a string of six consecutive top five finishes, including three more wins.  And, just for good measure, Fronsman also won a couple of Super Stock Main Events to make him the current winningest driver in the inaugural season at West Valley Speedway.

Shawn “Z-Man” Zelenka, also known to some as “Showtime”, made history by becoming West Valley Speedway’s Inaugural Winter Series Champion.  By winning the Winter Series Championship, Shawn became eligible for inclusion into the Fast Shafts All Star Invitational during the Super Nationals weekend for the IMCA Modifieds to be held in Boone, Iowa in September.  As determined by fan voting, Zelenka will be an entrant in the elite 10-car field.

Shawn will be one of four local West Valley Speedway racing stars making the long trek to the famed and historic Boone Speedway the first week in September to represent Arizona in the IMCA Super Nationals.  Joining Zelenka at the largest and most prestigious Modified event in the country will be 2007 West Valley Speedway IMCA Modifieds current Point Leader, George “The Fronzinator” Fronsman, “The Bullfighter” John Morris Jr. and “Electric Joe” Parmeley.

Zelenka will represent Arizona and West Valley Speedway in two special events during Super Nationals Week.  In addition to Fast Shafts All Star Invitational event, Shawn will also compete in the Race of Champions.

Loyal West Valley Speedway fans will be able to catch the progress of their favorite driver each day of the event by going to IMCA.com and clicking the Super Nationals link.

The team at West Valley Speedway would like to wish all four drivers the very best of luck during the Super Nationals Week.

The competition has continued to be fast and furious in the in the M.V. ACCEPTANCE Hobby Stocks, seeing five different winners in seven races.  John “Wolfdog” Thomas and Lonnie Horgen both pulled off a pair of victories.  Thomas leads Horgen by just a handful of points with Marlon Childers third.

On June 23rd, history was made at West Valley Speedway when Jackie Parmeley became the first female driver to win a Main Event at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.  Parmeley has been involved in the fun filled “Battle of the Sexes”, created by the West Valley Speedway Media Dept., with her hubby “Electric Joe” Parmeley, who is a regular competitor in the IMCA Modifieds.  Through mid-summer, Jackie has bested Joe on most of the nights that both divisions compete.  AND ..... Jackie is the sole member of the racing Parmeley’s to have a Feature win.

The SUNSTATE MECHANCIAL SERVICES Bombers have also been ultra competitive with ever increasing car counts.  Through the early summer stretch of nine races, Aaron Oachs has dominated the division with four wins, three runner-up finishes and a third.  Eugene “Tireman” Altenbrun won a pair of Features, the first of his career.  Shawn Kennedy, Richard Bennett and Grant Ballard also found Victory Lane.  Les Horgen, through the strength of consistent finishes, holds a slim lead in the points over the Tireman while Oachs has muscled his way to the third spot in division points.

West Valley speedway is currently in its summer shutdown to initiate track improvements.
